PORTRAIT: Nina Dobrev

I actually wanted to share this last night, but I passed out.

It's an exercise drawing of Nina Dobrev of the Vampire Diaries.
I drew it as I am trying to get back into drawing regularly.  I wanted something not too hard but still challenging at the same time.  I thought this was a good start..with the hands, t-shirt folds, and hair.

If you don't know, back then I used to do portraits alot.  It was a hobby I really enjoyed.  This was about 5 years ago or so and I just fell out of it.  I don't know why..actually I do, haha.  But, I don't want to bore you with it.  Just enjoy the drawing ;)..

Some details if you want to know...
The drawing is 9X12 inches.
Medium is graphite.
Paper is Strathmore bristol smooth.

Close up of Nina's face...

Anyways..thanks for looking :)
Have a great weekend!

Sara.

GORGEOUS!!! At first I thought it was just a B&W photo of her until you mentioned it was a drawing~ ahhh the shadows/highlights and everything is just great :3 I don't know that much about drawing to give any artsy applause but it looks great <333

this is SO awesome, i love it...I also love drawing with graphite/charcoal but I find portraits the hardest to draw because you have to capture the subtle essence of a person, which is very difficult. keep drawing <3

Aww thanks Lucy! :) If it can pass off as a b/w photo from afar I'm good with that. I like to keep some sort of artsy effect to it. Thanks for your sweet comment <3

.....wow. This is just gorgeous. You really have a talent! I'm glad to hear you're picking it up again! I used to draw as well though not at your level! I'm really sad I stopped.. drawing really does take a lot of time (I remember spending four-five hours on an Elvis portrait I think). eesh! How long did it take you to draw this?

Looks spot on! The hair is amazing..
Btw. do you draw your portrait free hand or do you outline first?? :-)

Sara said...

Hi Sally :) Glad to see you're back. Thank you for the sweet comment. Do you mean grid my drawing when you say outline? I just draw by hand /eye coordination :)

Sara said...

Thanks :) This took an estimate of 8 hours give or take??? I didn't really time it. I hear ya..They take a long time. But you know, when you're really into it..it goes by fast.

Thanks Judy : )

DAMN, you are talented... I can draw but there is no way I can do it by hand/eye coordination :D By outline, I just meant like using a lightbox for example and outlining the important lines..
